Prenatal Chiropractic

Prenatal chiropractic care addresses the musculoskeletal and neurological side of pregnancy: how the pelvis and spine move, how the surrounding soft tissue balances, and how comfortable a woman is as her body reorganises around a growing baby.

Dr. Anne-Marie's perspective

Pregnancy asks a woman's body to change more in forty weeks than at any other point in adult life. Ligaments soften, the centre of gravity shifts, the ribcage and pelvis change shape, and breathing mechanics are reorganised. Care during this period is about supporting that adaptation, not treating pregnancy as a condition.

I am certified in the Webster Technique, a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment of the sacrum and surrounding soft tissue used in pregnancy with the aim of reducing biomechanical constraint in the pelvis. It is one part of care, and it belongs inside a team that includes a woman's obstetric provider or midwife.

What's worth understanding

  • Tables, positioning, and technique are all modified for a pregnant body.
  • Common discomfort is worth examining rather than simply enduring.
  • Care should be coordinated with your obstetric provider or midwife.
  • The postpartum year deserves as much planning as the birth itself.

Common questions

Is chiropractic safe during pregnancy?

Chiropractic care during pregnancy is widely used and generally considered low-risk when it is provided by a chiropractor trained in prenatal care, using techniques and positioning modified for a pregnant body. Care should be coordinated with your obstetric provider or midwife, and certain pregnancy complications require medical clearance first.

What is the Webster Technique?

The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic assessment and adjustment of the sacrum and surrounding soft tissue, used in pregnancy with the aim of reducing biomechanical constraint in the pelvis. It is a chiropractic technique performed on the mother — it is not a procedure performed on the baby.

Pregnancy Isn't a Condition to Survive

Discomfort in pregnancy is common. That does not make every part of it inevitable, and it does not mean a woman should be told to simply wait it out.
