Baby Reflux

Spitting up is extremely common in infants. Reflux becomes a clinical concern when it is accompanied by pain, poor weight gain, feeding refusal, or distress that does not fit the pattern of ordinary posseting.

Dr. Anne-Marie's perspective

Parents are often told to simply wait it out. Sometimes that is genuinely the right advice. But it is worth asking whether anyone has examined feeding position, latch, tension patterns, and comfort before the waiting begins.

Chiropractic care does not treat reflux. What an assessment can look at is whether a baby is comfortable in the positions feeding requires and whether they can turn and extend evenly on both sides.

What's worth understanding

  • Weight gain, feeding refusal, and signs of pain are the details that matter most.
  • A lactation consultant is often the most useful first call.
  • Persistent vomiting, blood, or poor weight gain requires medical assessment.

Common questions

Can chiropractic help babies with reflux?

Chiropractic care does not treat reflux, and the research in this area is limited. What an assessment can address is whether a baby is comfortable in the positions feeding requires and whether they can turn and extend evenly on both sides. Reflux with poor weight gain, feeding refusal, or signs of pain needs medical assessment.
