Meet Dr. Anne-Marie
I am a chiropractor in Dunwoody, Georgia, and I have spent close to two decades caring for families — pregnant mothers, brand-new babies, children who are growing faster than their parents can keep up with, and adults trying to stay capable in bodies that are asking more of them than they used to.
I did not set out to become an educator. That happened because the same questions kept arriving, appointment after appointment, and because families kept telling me that the explanation was the part that changed what they did next.
Why I Became a Chiropractor
What drew me in was a simple idea that took me years to fully appreciate: the body is not a collection of parts that occasionally malfunction. It is a coordinated system that is constantly adapting, and much of what we call health is really a description of how well that adaptation is going.
I trained at Life University. I left with a degree and, more usefully, with the habit of asking what is this body trying to do rather than only what is wrong with it.
What Caring for Families Has Taught Me
The first thing is that people are rarely asking the question they appear to be asking. A mother asking whether her baby's head-turning is normal is usually asking something larger: am I paying attention to the right things, and will someone take me seriously?
The second is that most people have never had anyone explain their own body to them in plain language. Not because their providers are careless, but because there is almost never time.
The third is that families change together. A household's pace, sleep, food, and stress shape every individual inside it. That is why I rarely treat a person as though they exist in isolation.
Why Pregnancy + Pediatrics Became Such an Important Part of My Work
Pregnant women kept arriving having been told that their discomfort was simply part of pregnancy. Sometimes it was. Often, no one had actually examined it. That gap bothered me enough to keep training — Webster Technique certification, and eventually the CACCP designation in pediatric and prenatal chiropractic.
Babies pulled me further in. An infant cannot describe anything, but they show you a great deal: how they turn, how they feed, how they settle, how they hold themselves. I found that I loved the observational care that work requires — and that parents were desperate for someone who would look carefully and speak honestly, including about the limits of what I can offer.
My Philosophy of Health
Health is not the absence of symptoms. It is the capacity to adapt — and to recover.
Nearly everything I believe follows from that sentence. Symptoms are late signals. Adaptation is the thing worth building, and it is built the way any capacity is built: through load and recovery, repeated over years.
Practically, that makes me an advocate for movement, sleep, real food, unstructured time for children, and care that pays attention before something breaks. It also makes me suspicious of anything sold as a single answer to a complicated question.
I am not anti-medical. Modern medicine is remarkable at what it was designed for. My argument is with using an acute-care model to answer chronic, cumulative questions — and with dismissing people instead of examining them.
Life Outside the Office
I live in metro Atlanta with my family. Most of what I recommend to patients is something I am also negotiating at home: protecting sleep, getting outside, keeping the household's pace survivable, and resisting the urge to fill every hour.
I read constantly, mostly in areas adjacent to my own, and I change my mind more often than I expected to when I graduated.
