Ask Dr. Anne-Marie
What is nervous system-based chiropractic?
Short answer
It describes an approach to chiropractic that frames care around how the nervous system receives and responds to information from the spine and joints, rather than focusing only on the site of pain. In practice it means assessing how the whole system is functioning and adapting, not only where it hurts.
What it means in a practical sense
Movement generates information. Joints, muscles, and connective tissue continuously feed the nervous system data about where the body is and what it is doing. A nervous system-based approach pays attention to the quality of that input across the whole body rather than treating a painful area in isolation.
What it does not mean
It does not mean chiropractic treats unrelated medical conditions. I hold this line firmly. Describing care in terms of the nervous system is a description of mechanism and focus, not a licence for broad claims.
My perspective
I have advanced proficiency training in Torque Release Technique, which is a low-force, specific approach fitting this framing. What matters more than the name of a technique is whether the practitioner examines properly, explains clearly, and is honest about what care can do.
